This week I installed the first of several Cantilever Signal Bridges. The Bridges came to us by way of John Rodgers. Mark Granados Reworked the bridge by removing the original dummy signal heads and installing new working BLMA searchlight signal heads. He also painted it. Nice Job. John weathered it a bit prior to installation. These heads require a small circuit to adapt them from 3 wire to 2 wire so that they are compatible with all the Sunrise searchlights already installed on the layout.
Dave Bardwell has built a nice Signal Bridge which has been installed but not operational at the South end of Calistoga. It also has BLMA signal heads on it and will require the adapter circuit as well. Now that the proof-of-concept has been done on the Cobb cantilever we should be able to move forward on Dave's bridge.
Take a look at the above video. Watch it to the end and pay attention to the signals as the train progresses. Initially both signals are red, as the approaching train clears the block and heads into the siding the signal behind it turns green. The turnout then throws for the main at which point the signal for the main turns green and the siding red. The Train on the main departs and the signal turns red. When it clears the block it turns yellow, then awhile later, it turns green when it clears the block ahead.
